It’s all about digestion
Hello again!
The winter chill is in the air and I don’t know about you, but that makes me want to fill my belly with cozy comfort foods like butternut squash soup and chicken pot pie. It’s also during this time, as things slow down from the busy summer months, that I come back to focusing more on my health. For me that starts with consuming a properly prepared, nutrient dense, whole food diet. But sometimes even that is not enough. Even the most amazing diet cannot be properly utilized if our digestion is not working optimally.
Digestion is a complicated process starting in our brains. It involves our mouth, digestive tract, gallbladder, pancreas, liver and ends with the excretion of waste products in our poop. When it is not working properly, we are not able to break down food into the molecules that our cells need for optimal function.
There are many factors that can negatively affect how our food is digested and ultimately absorbed.
Some of these can include:
Eating under stressful conditions
Not adequately chewing our food
Not having enough stomach acid
Nutrient deficiencies
Decreased digestive enzymes
Inflammation
Poorly functioning digestion can show up in many ways including but not limited to; gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, allergies and joint pain.
The bottom line is: Poor digestion = Poor overall health
As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner I can help you get to the underlying causes of digestive dysfunction and lead you down the path to optimal, vibrant health.
